What're you going to do with it- c&s or chip it?

My vote: chip it. Unless you're really short for shoulder-season wood, then WTH.

nothing personel, but let that stuff grow awhile, what dia. is that wood?? every time i see a post from you I think, wow that is some small diameter trees being cut down. I guess that is just me, stuff i scrounge from tree service outfits is like 3 times that size

Ok its standing dead, i get it. but still small

Nothing personal but what part of dead don't you understand. All this small diameter stuff will have me five years ahead and if you follow some of my post you should understand that 95 percent of what I take is blowdown.

My wood supply won't run out and the dead trees will not grow, put me on ignore. edit

I guess so! I'm gone

Hey Elder they do have smaller trees back there. At least they don't have as many 100ft. Douglas Fir. I don't think we need to get into a distance or size competition over a dead bass tree... Hey zap why the Ahole thing??

Easy, boys! I guess everyone is getting a little testy from working in the heat. I know I am. Just the other day I was bucking an Ash, and cussed out a Poison Ivy vine that was growing on it for a full five minutes.

No sure why you would cuss out a poison ivy vine that has been growing for only a full five minutes LOL...........................

Zap I take it thats You in the pic....How much you weigh?

Zap...keep doing your thing man. I think Elder is jealous of your wood supply.

lol Hardwoods are much smaller on the eastcoast when there in the Woods or forest. Thats where all the hardwood lumbar comes from...If you want a 50+ hardwood its a yard tree......Just is what it is.....Nothing fun about busting up a 50 inch hardwood either. ;-)

Still trying to figure out where this went wrong? Elder is a buddy, but I never had anything against Zap either... He's always postin some righteous wood porn. I wish we had more opportunity to scrounge around here. We have trees every where, no public cutting and the private owners are scared of liability...

Just curious.......How easy does basswood split by hand? Have a 35ft tree in my front yard thinking of taking down.

 C'mon guys....this isnt Junior High FFS. We should be fightin' the trees, bugs & the heat/humidity.Not each other. ;-)

Getting this back to the original post, I'll say it is dead elm. Now let's argue over that one and please don't get personal. This forum does not need that.

Looks like dead elm to me also.

I think we'll use it for burning in the woods this winter. Just wanted it down before it became more dangerous.

I'm responsible for the safety of our travel on our property, so when the tree is dead big or small and it's still safe enough to drop I'll do it.

If someone from the west coast thinks different well I really don't care. That is a trail we use.

If it were basswood I would have put the tree down and let her lay unless I wanted some camp fire wood / shoulder season wood / etc. Pretty low value to that wood imo. Elm on the other than hand should work great. The elm should be quite a bit more dense than basswood so for me I'd keep the elm for the stove. Also, the basswood I see around here ususally has longer valley's in the bark. I'm going elm also.

Pen, the tree is still down but will be bucked up because that is the trail in that area we use. Next spring the area that trail leads to needs some cleaning up.

It's a never ending process. We do a lot of that on my friends land where I get firewood. They own 500 acres and have miles of roads through their woods. It's nice to have vehicle access through the property.
