This is an FYI. So we all talk about temperatures and what not, but how do we write the degrees symbol. If you are like me, that is someone who is rear ended, you can type your number eg. 625 and to get the degree symbol raised you hold down the ALT key and then tap 2...4...8 on the number keypad on the right hand side of the keyboard (it doesn't work with the number at the top of the regular keys). And there you have it, another tip from Ray's book of useless facts Ray
And when you need to express degrees Kelvin? %-P Like BG said, "Got Mac?" For the degree sign on the Apple keyboard it's simply "option" plus "zero". Also, on the iPhone you just keep your finger on any character on the QUERTY touch keyboard until you see the various options for each character displayed to the left. For the ° sign the correct key is the "zero" key. Below are the options for the letter "O": o ô ö ò ó œ ø Šõ. Pretty cool, eh?
Or, with the android keyboard, from the number keys tap ALT and find the ° the there. Or use the smileys. Edit: sorry about the extra 'the'. Stupid android keyboard.
You should be able to pull up the virtual keyboard, right? Then hold down the "option" key and press "0" (zero). You should get this character º. Or in context 650º.
option + 0 (zero) = º shift + option + 8 = ° for Macs. not sure which is the degree symbol. i just mash the keyboard till i see it.
Mac : option -k works, too sometimes makes a tinier symbol 32 ˚ (option -k) 32º (option -0 (zero) "smileys" is under "message" if you open a reply window
When you click on "Reply", or "Quote", you open up a box into which a response may be typed (I'm doing it right now...as you have done many times). While I'm in the "Post a New Reply" box, I see, just to the left of the box, the word "Smileys". Click on that, and a pop-up box appears containing the available smileys. Clicking on a smiley will insert it into your reply message wherever your cursor is currently located.
For a degree symbol...and a whole lot more things...I use ALT-codes. directories of them are available by simply Googling "ALT codes". ² ³ ½ ¼ ¾ ° ± etc., etc.
Okay, from iPad: it's only 10° outside provided only from solid fuel grown by nature between 32° and 100° then carried inside where it's a comfortable 75° ! Thanks for the typing assistance
HehHeh . . . true story . . . when I was hired at the fire department I had to do a short safety presentation to show that I could teach and knew something about fire safety. I offered a short presentation on where to place smoke detectors and had the Assistant Chiefs and Fire Chief mark where they thought smoke detectors should be placed in a diagram of a house that I had on a transparency . . . it all went well until the Fire Chief took the marker and made a dot on the screen -- instead of on my transparency. That red dot is still on the screen in the classroom.
