Had a chance to drop a monster Ash that was damaged in a storm. It was hit by lightning about 5 years ago and it snapped off its' top on one of the two main trunks. My back cut was a little low on one side but it went where I wanted it to. Trunks are 30 and 33 inches in diameter. There is some real nice heartwood that has no doubt been affected by the strike. I have 5 sections left at lumber length with hopes of making into lumber.

Wow thats nasty damage by lightening. We have an elm that got struck, blew the bark right open. Like an unzipped pair of pants. Interesting grain pattern from that. Didnt know Ash got that big. Too bad. Thanks for the pics good to see what lightening damage does.

Cut it, burn it, love it. We had an 85 ft tree fall during Sandy, still cutting, splitting and stacking, will be for months. It took 2 cuts with a big husky bar to get through trunk at the roof line. We counted the rings a few times and got a different answer each time, 158-164 - pretty cool!

Looks like your snow is almost all melted.
Nice size trees, should make some nice lumber & firewood .
Stumps look fine. Good job felling :)
Looks like they had a bit of a lean built in.

That's a score, right there.
There's a 32-incher DBH across the street waiting for me. The book sez 2' so maybe they don't get real huge. The ones around here seem to die more often before they get big than some of the other species. Seems like I remember a few posts here with at least 3-footers...

Yep they's been a few pictures of monster ash trees here. I though you were one but maybe it was Dennis that had the picture.

That would be rdust. I recall him getting a big one in a town.

I like those 30" ash and one really nice thing about that one is the lack of limbs. Makes for some fast and easy cutting.

Ash limbs on the ground are almost alive! There were some on the ground and they grab your pant legs, soles of the boots and laces alike.

Nice tree! There'll be so nice splits come from that there hunk of wood. Shouldn't takt to long to process nice and straight and no limbs. That vine  looks a little worrysome however.
