Down Draft Pellet Stove?

I pumped my friend up so much about my pellet stove he wants one.
He wants to replace his gas stove with a down draft chimney and a fan in line to help the draft.
The is about 8ft from center of gas fireplace to outside of his home.
Does have a chance?
