Feeling the Heat

From time to time I think about this project and check in to see how things are operating. http://www.dlsc.ca/
If you aren't aware of it, it's a community that was built with a large solar thermal system that integrates a borehole seasonal thermal energy storage (STES) system. It circulates solar heated water through boreholes to store that thermal energy for the winter. Even last year, they were able to provide over 90% of the entire community's heat with this system.

Pretty cool stuff.

Looks really neat. I guess thermal storage explains why subways are usually pretty warm, even in winter. Has this sort of project been done anywhere else?
