Hi all.

Received this question and wanted the pro's to input as well for Sophie123. Don't want to give bad or dangerous advice. The question sent to me was:

could you tell me how to remove the baffle so that I may clean my stove pipe? I bought this stove 2 months ago and like it, but cant find any info on how to do this. There is nothing on this in the manual that came with the stove. Thanks, sure would appreciate some help

and my answer was:

hey Sophie,

I haven't looked to see if the baffle is bolted or welded in, but i suspect it is welded; if so, it won't be removable. As i understand, our stovepipes are generally cleaned in a couple of different ways such as 1. removing the rain cap and cleaning/ brushing from the top of the chimney down to the stove using a flu brush/sweep like this http://www.northlineexpress.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=5SB-36406M and a handle like this http://www.northlineexpress.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=5SB-30624M or, 2. if your stove pipe has a built in tee then it may be one that has a clean out access (removable cap like similar to this one at http://www.northlineexpress.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=5IM-BM0029) to allow for ease of cleaning, or 3. the stove pipe may possibly be removed from the stove to allow access to clean from beneath the roof line, but i would think this would be the least desirable method as it seems it could make a real mess. If you do remove it, you may want to see if the manufacturer of your particular stove pipe has a telescoping section of pipe to replace your fixed pipe if you don't already have it. this makes removing the stove pipe for cleaning from the bottom side much easier (example only - http://www.northlineexpress.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=5SP-8647).

I will likely post your question in the hearth room forum for professional feedback as i am a novice. Please follow up on this at the forum for safety reasons. Also, I have found the folks at drolet's phone service line to be very helpful 418-527-3060. Their website has online support as well and they are at http://www.drolet.ca/.

Finally, when my fire goes out, i will look to see if i can identify the baffles securing method and send you another message.

If any of your pro's see I need correcting anywhere or have some additional advice, i know it would be appreciated.

Thanks to all,
Robert (rnman)
