A tree cutter down the street was cutting down a dead maple that was standing for 2 years. The home owner offered me all the rounds and I split them up. Some of the splits had what looked like wax worms inside of it?

How long should the splits dry before I can use them? I stored it in a covered wood shed that is not in direct sun light. I Have a Century insert.

I tried to burn a split on a good coal bed but it was much harder to burn than my seasoned wood.

Yes. It will be ready next fall. Get it split ASAP or at least by Spring.
