I put a new combustor in my XL...HOLY MOLY it makes a huge difference! It got hot faster, it stopped smoking sooner, and it's leveled out on temp much easier.

I remember seeing a chart on the way combustors work - they are like supercharged for the first couple of months and then settle down to normal for a couple years...and then slowly degrade from there. You are seeing the supercharge!
Idc if it's supercharged or not now. Lol. The old one was toast. The band around it was completely deformed and falling apart. If if this thing settles down 50% it's still a world of difference.
