Well, in April I bought a Dutchwest 2460 catalytic wood stove from a far away place in NJ. Brand new. Before buying I went to the Vermont Castings website to get technical information and just to stare at all the beautiful stoves on their website (stove porn).

Anyway, now when I go to their website I can't find a link or any mention to the Dutchwest stoves. Which leads me to believe they are either discontinuing them or have sold the brand to another company.

Also tried doing a Google search for the Dutchwest website and nothing official comes up. I would contact Vermont Castings about technical support and warranties (since the stove is new technically - it was a six year old floor display model which was never used) but i can't find any emails or phone numbers to call.

I know this stove line goes way back, so it would be a shame if they discontinue it.

I saw that too. Based on what I have read and the stoves I have seen in the dealer showrooms, I think the DW Cat stoves are some of the best out there and a great bang for the buck. I came within a hair of buying the XL Cat model - the only drawback I could see with it was the 8 inch flue.

I think you have a fine stove regardless if VC continues to make the DW stoves.

Bill

Just to throw this out there you only need the 8"flue if you plan on running the XL stove with the front doors open and the fireplace screen in.

Rumor is they haven't killed the line, but are moving some things around. It will probably pop back up shortly on its own, new website.

That's what I suspect. Since they moved steel stove production to Vermont they will probably market them and the DW cast line together.

I hope they stick around. I sure do like the look of these stoves.

Curious though, they are listing the Savannah series on the site, but not Dutchwest. However, the links to the steel stove manuals does not work. It appears that in detached corporate fashion there is no way for the customer to communicate problems to the company or webmaster.

I'd like to rebuild mine and toss a steel cat in there when I find time. I love that little stove.

I did just that last fall, my little stove got even better. Hopefully it'll last another 15 years now.

I agree Cert.. When I was looking at stoves I noticed all 3 Dutchwest cat stoves used the same 6" cat.. I didn't like that you have adapt from oval to round unlike my old cdw which came with a round and an oval flue outlet.. They should supply a 6" round outlet option for the XL and all their stoves.. That's my opinion on that matter..

That 's interesting. I looked at he VC website and didn't see them either. Also the parent company http://www.monessenhearth.com. I've sold both VC and Dutchwest stoves and the Dutchwest line was always well made and less expensive than the VC line. I hope they show up again.

I too feel they are a well made rugged stove very hard to damage with normal usage due to the cast iron interiors.. The uncertainty of VC's future is a big concern for me so I decided against them for that reason alone..

Hi,

Monessen is putting the Dutchwest line of stoves under their Majestic brand, and the Savannah line under the Vermont Castings brand. They are still in the product line. A bit of a switch-er-oo. A very recent decision, so it may a bit of time for this to be acclimated.

Welcome to the forum and thanx for the info! It's pretty dead around here until the Fall rolls around then it's a madhouse.. Stick around a while and have fun!

Odd that the Savannah line is showing up on both websites, but no Dutchwest showing on the Majestic or Monessen sites. Are they redoing this soon?

It was announced in June, so it is pretty recent.... not sure how long it will be before the websites are updated. It certainly would be to their advantage to have all of their ducks in a row!

If it were me I'd have info on all the websites indicating that the Dutchwest line website is being updated and would have left the old site up until the renovations were done.. What they did wasn't a good business decision and lacks common sense.. That's my take on this one..

I agree, it is not a good business move and nonsensical. Unfortunately, when big companies buy smaller ones, or in this case, the mess that was Dutchwest, they tend to treat the stoves as a commodity that you just sell and forget about it. I am not saying Monessen is this way, but the way they separate from the customer by not giving any contact info on their websites shows just that. Maybe it will change when the website adjustments are made, but showing a constant relationship with the customers gives the customer a sense of support when buying a product. Granted, stoves are not as complicated as cars, but when it's you and your cold stove in a cold winters day and you can't get it to work, companies should have accessible technical support to help the customer.

Now if Englander made a catalytic stove I would have bought that instead of the Dutchwest 2460, just because they have a good website, WITH A CUSTOMER SUPPORT TELEPHONE NUMBER!!!!!!

Sometimes, we just need someone to talk to!

Glad I found this thread. I just priced a DutchWest today that would replace my big old Defiant. I am also researching the Jotul Oslo 500. I noticed the disappearance of the website for DutchWest and that makes me very nervous and less likely to buy it.

What is the feeling here on the DW cat versus non-cat? I use my Defiant in winter (usually just Dec, Jan, and Feb, other cold days) starting about 4 p.m., and stop feeding wood about 10 p.m. Stove is still warm (oil furnace does not kick on) when I get up about 5 or 6 a.m. The Defiant without cat has been fine, and I don't think I want fussing with a cat and replacing it in a few years if a non-cat is "good enough".

The DW non-cat uses the "everburn" combustion system. Do a search here for "everburn", read a lot and then enjoy your new cat stove.
