Been burning a lot of elm lately. Produces very little ash but I keep getting these hard deposits. Some are small and others are pretty big. They are definitely some sort of mineral deposit because they don't glow like the normal coals. I'd say i get a half an ash bucket full of them for every 1/3 cord.

Anyone know what they are...is there a term for it? Just curious.

Clinkers . . . I get them from burning lots of elm as well.

I noticed some of that as well with elm. I still like burning it better than walnut because of all the ash buildup.

I distinctly remember cutting what I am burning now. It dulled the chain very quickly and was/isbhard as a rock. Now I know why.
