Are there any clear studies on what fan speed is best, and under what circumstances?

Some of the things to consider:

1. Higher speed moves more air, but at lower speed the air will heat up more.
2. Higher speed uses somewhat more electricity
3. Does the fan cool down the box enough to affect the fire?
4. Higher speed makes more noise

In my case (Regency warmhearth) I set it to high only when the front surface temperature is around 350 or higher, otherwise low.
