I have a 54"w x 31h opening, does anyone other than a tin knocker have a surround this large, looking to upgrade my old majestic.(more heat heat out the chimney)

Welcome HB. The surround size shouldn't be an obstacle. That is a very wide opening, but simple sheet metal extensions can be added. Get the right stove for the job. You have some options. With an opening that big you can either install a stove with no surround panels or install a free-standing stove on the hearth. Some of the wider inserts on the market are the Buck 91/94, Lopi Freedom Bay with 12" panels.
Thanks Begreen. I was thinking Pacific Summit, but just started thing about doing this a week ago.
The Summit is a fine insert. It would need side extensions to the panel, but any sheetmetal shop can fab those up. Whatever your choice, know that in a couple weeks prices will go up and incentives may disappear. Now is the time to buy before the season warms up.
I said I would do it this summer but there's always something else to do, I spent more time on the mower than expected due to all the rain we had.
