Picked up a couple bags to try the other day. Came home from a school band concert last night and the house was 66 degrees which was unacceptable to my better half. Fired the stove with the FSUs in it and set it on heat level 4 of 5. In @ 1.5 hours the house was 70 with 275 degree temps from the convection fan. Outside temp mid-thirties. Ash seems low and glass stayed clean thru the two bags.

Went back and grabbed the last 7 bags. I'll keep watch for more to show up at HD.

I bought 4 tons in September from Home Depot, burned about 1/2 ton already. Gotta say I am pretty impressed, low ash and good heat @ $209/ton I would buy again.

We're using them in our pellet basket insert in our wood stove (burning just weekends) and can second that they are burning nice and hot (house was 74 all weekend, both floors) with not much ash. Use about a bag a day over a weekend. Bought 2 tons (1 in Plaistow, 1 in Manchester) bags from both burn the same. 2 tons will let us burn every weekend thru April and 35-40 cold nights during the winter.

I bought a ton from HD also. Very impressed with them. Wish I knew how good they are. Already had 3 tons of Geneva at the time.

Where were you guys last week when I started the Fireside vs. Stove Chow thread?

I ended up buying the Stove Chow which don't burn that well for me, but luckily only 15 bags.

The responses I remember were that they were a tossup. I went with the Chows because thats what they had at the closest HD. I could've travelled 2 miles further for the Firesides.

Are there any Home Depot's in Southeast Ma. that carry them? I'd like to give them a try.The only pellets I've seen are Nations Choice and Green Supremes around here.

I agree. Think of the FSU as the Green bag Energex CA. and the SC as the Energex Americans.

Bought 4 bags of FU last week to test, a bit ashy but that's not a deal killer for me. Will be hitting up my local Box Store to grab my winters stash. When I was up there last week, they must've had 50+ tons :)

HD here in VT was selling them at $209 per with a $65 delivery charge, $991 to heat my house this winter. Not bad!

How about fines and dust in this year's FUs? I'm still burning through the last 20 bags or so of a ton from last spring and they are pretty bad for that - heat's ok though.

They are a little dusty but I wouldn't say any worse than any other pellet at that price.

Best for dust I've burned are Vermont's but at $60 more per ton I'll deal.

Yeah, decent pellet. But let's break it down. Outside temp in 30's, put the stove setting on 4/5, wait an hour and a half and the inside temps increased by 4 degrees. I'm glad that you are happy with them, they are a decent pellet. But man, that test, under those conditions, is like junior varsity tryout there. Not too many pellets would have trouble making that cut.

Good point. Based on that 'test' I'd say they don't throw any heat at all.Even the GS I was burning, which I am not a fan of at all, would have done that in 1/3rd the time running on room temperature setting. Unless of course your house is 10000 sq feet with 12 foot ceilings and no ceiling fans. (and you had the windows open).

There's way too many variable to base any sort of judgement on how fast a stove warms up a house. You've already mentioned square footage, ceiling height, fans. Add to that insulation, air tightness, open or closed floor plan, etc.

I'm pretty new, had my stove for a few weeks. Have burned GS, Geneva, North American, NEWP, Cubex, and Fireside ultra and like fireside the best. Very little ash and keeping my house at 73 degrees with the stove on Low. Love the price as well...
