You know you are a PSYCHO when you stop counting and start rounding your hoard to ranges of 5 cords like " oh I got about 30-35 cord".

    I'm at "severe wood addict"

I will be squarely in the "woodpile PSYCHO" category in two years. But I buy all mine, so it's not as impressive. I plan on cutting back when I have 30-40 cord. That will put me about five years ahead. From that point on I will only purchase based on how much I used the previous year.

After my last score I graduated to cord hoarder(all scrounged). Have plans to build a pallet rack tonight and start splitting and stacking tomorrow afternoon and Saturday morning. I have decided I have to get a insert. My open masonry fireplace just goes through too much wood.

After looking at what we've got CSS and to be CSS, we're at about (full) 20 cord, not counting what's earmarked for this burning season. Not bad for one year of scrounging.

Like Scotty, I also look at your blog from time to time. How did you get your wood flooring to match with the old floor and new flooring that you did. When we repaired areas of our old flooring the new flooring, though the same type of wood, did not absorb stain to the same degree as the older flooring. Wasn't a big deal as the areas are separated and looks fine, but it would be nice to get them to match.

    Thanks!

Luck I think, lol. Well, we also planed down each piece (old and new), and the "new" wasn't really new, it was old barn floor so it was probably about the same age, so about the same tightness to the growth. They don't completely match though, the stuff in the kitchen and dining room (original to the Cottage) has more red to it. Of course, the most obvious part is where there's some water damage and it's right where the two meet (hall into dining room). It's all coated in (boiled) linseed, no stain. I might wait until spring and do another coat with some turpentine mixed in to help it absorb/dry better-but I didn't want to do that now with everything closed up. If you look way back, the floor for the living room was also done in BLO/Turp, but that was a different wood altogether (salvaged garage sheathing). That doesn't look at all like the rest of the flooring, but we like it anyway.

Darn. I thought you had yourself a secret!

We did the same thing in the areas it would be noticeable. We took the flooring from the attic and it matched up well. Thanks for the info, though.

I have not had time to follow this thread. :( There just isn't enough time captain! ;hm I am going to have dig up that video off of youtube when I get home with the "original Scotty" saying that. ;lol I am missing a lot of stuff in a lot of cool threads. Maybe the next level of a "problem" will be when someone takes a vacation so they can read more stuff on hearth.com I hope none of you get there.

Standingdead. How much wood do you have again? You know you have a problem when you join an organization and you can go right to the top because of your addiction.

I got 7.5 left for this year, about 18-20 in stacks, 2-3 split but not stacked, a cord of rounds. So that makes it around 30 cord I guess. I still got a bunch of trees to take down in the next month. I got a touch of flu right now and it's driving me crazy not to be out cutting....so yea it's an issue :) I need a few more cords to finish up 15/16....it never ends now does it ;)

    Scotty...
Just what are the criteria ? is this C/S/S , or do the logs that are cut ,but not yet Bucked ,and processed figure into this ? If it's the first criteria ,I'm a BTU processor ,if the latter , I'm well over the limit of a sane firewood person at 25+ cord . I plan to remedy My affliction by burning a lot of it in the next few years . It doesn't help matter when the local sawmill guy has Me on speed dial .:)

Okay, in fairness, the wood has to be C/S/S. If we counted logs, downed trees on properties, and wood yet-to-be-dropped, I'd be at around 50-60 cord, with all th deads on my neighbors farm and tree removal jobs we have scheduled this winter...........

So we gotta have the wood C/S/S.........now GET TO WORK!!
