It's never too early or late. We went to Ireland in 2007 and first thing I did when I got off the plane in Dublin (6:30AM) was to go to a pub for a pint of Guinness. I was not the only one in there.

I don't have a solid number, but I would say somewhere between Severe wood addict and woodpile psycho.....
I have been bringing home wood all summer and have only split 1/3 of it. The fresh pile has at least 5 cord in it, there are at least 4 cord in the shed from last year, another cord or two by the barn, 1 by the silo, 1/2 cord outside the window by the wood stove, plus whatever is still in a pile at a friends place waiting to come home......that makes a possible 25+ cord this year, unless I find more........

Lately I've been staying out of the woodshed forum so I don't end up as bad as most of you guys. Lol 3 years ahead or 10 cords is more than enough for me.

Deny yourself all you want but the desire takes over eventually. forum or not. ;) Go ahead, split another one. One more won't hurt. Trust me.....

I am new to wood burning, have only had my stove for about a month. I already have 5 cords stacked and ready. Unfortunately only one cord is coming in below 18%, so I am stuck burning greenish wood this winter as I stock pile for next year and the year after. I am going to buy two more cords of "seasoned" wood this winter, so that will give me 5 cords for next winter and then all the stuff I cut and split this year will be for 2014-2015.

After this year, i should be good to go with seasoned wood and after this year, I will not be paying for wood anymore!

Maybe three - four cords, stacked along my back fence and at the side of my front yard. I live in a subdivision and my next door neighbors joke that if the zombie apocalpyse happens, I'll be ready.

They usually laugh until the power goes out for a few days in the middle of winter. Then they take note of how you have heat and hot suppers, and are only minorly inconvenienced by the outage. ;)

I said that over 20 years ago. "I normally burn 3-4 cords max per season for supplemental heat,so I'll wait until its all gone before cutting any more for next year...I just love cutting in blizzards, ice storms & when its over 90 degrees to catch up"

maybe take some of those splits that are on the borderline (20 to 28%) and split them a bit smaller, mix 'em with your more seasoned wood, you should be fine throughout one season. But, keep an eye on your flue this year because of that wetter wood. Just start getting as much as you can, over the winter, and get it c/s/s as soon as you cut it up. You'll be a nutcase like the rest of us in NO time.....

One of my neighbors came by tonight while I was outside splitting wood. He made the comment of how much wood is enough. I told him just one more tree.

I've got 120 tops on the ground spread around my 25 acres, does that count for something. ::-)
  24. Flatbedford Minister of Fire

I don't think it really counts until it is cut, stacked, and split. Can we get an official ruling on this?

Do these stacks count? That one is about twice that size now.
