Feeling the Heat

I went out and bought a 8" chimney brush and the extender rods on Saturday. Went on the roof and took a look at the chimney. I started burning in January of 2009 and thought it would be a good idea to see what my chimney looked like. I basically didn't see anything the first three feet down. I went ahead and brushed it but I got no residue at all. You could see the wire scratches in the metal from the first swipe. I was pleased!! Is this a normal occurence? I expected something to be there.

Thanks, Jeff

Good deal . . . sounds like you're doing everything right . . . burning seasoned wood and burning at the proper temps. Keep doing what you've done!

That's not normal, as in average, at all. Most get a ton of residue the first year (and some every year for decades), if they can plow through the glassy creosote at all.

You're way ahead of the game.
