just curious but everyone recomends using a stack thermometer but what if you had and insert how would you measure your flue temps. my father and brother have inserts sure theyd like to know, thanks
 
Some stoves (mainly combustor stoves) have a small hole that accepts a sensor wire for a thermometer.
This is used to determine the temp at the bse of the pipe, so you know when it's OK to engage the combustor.

Not sure of how to remotely check chimney temp other thatn that.
Frankly, I never felt the need to check chimney temp on my Avalon, although my Silent Flame with the combustor could benefit from a reading.
