This is right across the street from me. Tree guy said he would cut it to 18" and bring up driveway. Should I accept? He said it was oak....isn't it maple?

    Hi Freddy,

I'm not sure what it is - others have much better ID skills/knowledge and I'm sure will know. The bark does kinda look like maple though.

But... why do you have any hesitation about taking it? If he's bucking and dropping it in your drive, seems like a no-brainer to me - I'd say get it!

You are all right. I just feel so disorganized this being my first year. I got stacks of wood all over and need to come up with a plan, but that is for another post. Guess free and delivered sounds great!

    Thanks for the instant responses.

Wish I could mill some lumber out of it. They are taking down 3 VERY large trees.

If he is bucking it up for you, take it. That way you dont have to worry about all the stuff buried in the wood, and ruining a chain.

Hmmm . . . is this one of those brain teasers . . . guy is willing to buck the wood to length, bring it up your driveway to you and do this for free and you are wondering if you should take it? Grab it and buy that guy a few cool beverages.

OK . Let me make sure I have this right :
Oak; Cut & delivered free & you want to know if you should take it all, right?
I rarely say this but, DUH? LOL :) :)

Tell him split & stacked or no deal. LOL :)

I know (hope) you were teasing us ;)

My problem is; why are you letting him have all the fun ?
Good excuse to buy a new Hysq 562XP ;)

Take it, take it, take it. Make friends with him, cold beverage worked for my tree guys. In fact they dropped a pickup load of oak the other day without telling me. I was looking out the window later that day and thought to my self, didn' t I have most of that ash split. Did realize the present they had left.

You're not supposed to worry about the plan or what to do with it until after you get it. Until you get it all, getting it all is the plan...==c

Saying no to the tree service guy is like a kid chasing Santa Claus back up the chimney before he leaves presents! :) Wow I wish once, just once, someone would offer me a truckload of oak dropped in my driveway! Seems like all anyone drops off is cats !

Take it. As for the plan, take a day to buck up those big logs. Then rent a splitter and get some buddies and take a day splitting it. Then take a day to stack it. In 3 days you're all set!
