Chimney fire risks are almost non-existant with gasifiers because of the clean burning. I have been running mine for three years and just checked the chimney. It is perfectly clear and clean. I was going to run a brush down, but it didn't need it. I do have to empty the cleanout once a year though.

I seem to recall someone saying not to use caps on gasifiers, but I can't remember why. Hopefully someone else will chime in with more on that.
