I'm in Germany on biz today, and arrived last night to a small town having a "Christmas Market" (a small market/ x-mas party in middle of village each night with food and drinks..). One of the first things that caught my eye was this little shack baking Pizza and breads in two wood fired masonry oven stoves. Really cool and delicious!

Thought you guys would apprciate the pics!

GIve that guy a stove thermo. He's over-firing his pizza pan! ;lol

I'd like to have an ax and chopping block in the house but I don't think that would fly with my better half...

Seriously, great pics...thanks. That looks like some delicious bread, and the place is charming. :)

Ahh Germany, what a wonderful place! The pizza is called flammkuchen (flamecake), it is fabulous!!! What part of Germany were you in? I was mainly down south when I lived there, Frankfurt, Weisbaden,Ravensberg, etc.

My bad, I should learn how to read better!!! You're pretty much smack dab in the middle. Not sure if you tried it yet, but the mulled wine is pretty warm and tasty on a cold night. Watch out though, it sneaks up on ya! I can vaguely remember a few "quick" trips to the X-Mas mkt that after two or three mulled wines turned into very, very long nights of bar hopping :) The Germans have this infectious ability to make you have "just one more...."

I hope that you have a great time while you are there. Eat more flammkuchen!

Why is smoke coming out of the closed doors? Shouldn't that thing be drafting a little better than that?

Hmmm... Maybe it is and should be - could it be that the old witch wasn't as well seasoned as Gretel thought? :)

(for those who perhaps have forgotten the plot... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hansel_and_Gretel#Plot_of_the_story )

    I don't know, here's the stack for discussion! :)

Actually, I think they have a poor draft on purpose, so you get some wood smoke flavor in the pizza! GOOD STUFF!

Just excellent. It looks like part of a European travel show. I would so give up my job to run a shack like that. Nothing like a hot pizza right out of the oven to eat outside when it is cold out.

Nice - thanks for the sacrifice :)

Interesting - looks like a thin crust style from what I can see. I was 8 when I was last in Germany... very vague memories. I want to go visit again...

At least in southern Germany it is paper thin crust, it kinda shatters when you bite into the edges. I would go back in a heartbeat!
