WV Mountains
when the snow on the ground reached the 1st floor roof. Greetings from the snowy mountains of WV.

I hope you are talking about the porch roof. I shoveled a 6/12 today and that is about as steep as I would consider shoveling.
 
Huh...you have more snow down there that we do up here. Get a snow rake for that porch and make it easy on yourself.

imo this has been one of the most perfect winters a wood cutter could ask for. A minimum continuous snow cover that allowed the ground to freeze up.
