Finally harvested some girdled pecan yesterday. Was suprised that the exposed wood showed hardly any sign of decomposition. The new growth from above is obvious in the photos trying to reconnect with the stump's cambium layer. Girdled these 18 months ago and may have died this year since the upper part of the tree was not able to store it's energy in the roots.

Girdled 18 months ago as a test. DBH increased 1.375" in that time on the large pecan stem. Just didn't want to wait anymore. Probably would have died this year anyway and didn't want to deal with all the leaves. Trees were on my woodlot in an area that I planned on replanting with black locust. Split them last night.
