I bought a Condar "FlueGard" model that mounts in the stove pipe. I have been very happy with it. It's supposed to be pretty accurate- I believe it is. I thought it was worth a little extra to get one of their more expensive models. Still a good deal IMO at around 24 bucks.

Disclaimer: I have no financial stake in any hearth related companies.

I might add that the Condor thermometers are excellent. I had a couple similar units sold by Rutland. The Rutland ones would stick. No such problems witht he Condor units.

+1 on the Condar

I have a Condar mounted on the stove top and a Condar probe thermometer for the flue . . . but being the AR type I also bought an IR gun . . . and while all of these gauges are not scientifically tested the IR gun tends to agree with the surface mounted thermometer within a few degrees.

One of the thermometers was ordered through Northline Express.com . . . the other I picked up at my local True Value Hardware store.

Good to know the IR gun "validated" the stovetop unit.

I have a Candor as well that they gave me at the stove shop. Can't really comment too much on it since I've only used it for a grand total of 2.5 or 3 hours so far. But so far, so good!

Can't really tell . . . the IR gun would only measure the exterior temp of the pipe whereas the probe thermometer measures the internal temp of the pipe.

I notice that Condar is coming out with the new Inferno model with proper scales for stovetop use (as opposed to fluepipe). Looks good, though some might still disagree with the upper heat zone label temps.

For a cheaper thermometer, I picked up a Drolet at our local True Value for a friend and it's worked out ok.
