But I'm having trouble getting pix uploaded. So you will have to trust me on this...

I had some difficulty getting the fire to stay lit... I guess I wasn't using enough starter gel or pellets. The last time I filled the burn pot and poured on the gel... it finally got hot enough for the POF switch to click on and we got the pellets feeding.

This is a corn stove that I bought a few months ago... 4 years old but very little use. I have it in my shop right now trying it out... my wife wants this in the living room and I will put my old pepin into the shop when the time comes.

I like this stove but the high room fan has only come on once so far... I'd like a little more air coming thru the heat exchangers... don't know how to make that happen and I can't find the manual. The online version won't download even though i have the latest Adobe player so i guess i'm screwed for now.

Anyway the shop temp is now 50F and rising....

Hey no picture it didn't happen. You know the drill.

About starting that beast use the torch Luke, use the torch.

Krooser,
pdf copy of the manual coming your way via email.....let me know if it opens up correctly.

BTW, the manual says you MUST use a specific "pellet burn pot" in the Greenfield.

Merry Christmas

Wow!!! They sure are making those SC Auburns look nice all dressed up!!! :) They sure are a good Corn stove and for that matter not a bad pellet unit either!! We sure can't complain about our St. Croixs.

Enjoy your new unit!!

Well this morning I went out to the shop to see how things were going... not good.

The fire is NOT as good as it is in my Pepin... and the burn pot is overflowing with pellets. I adjusted the damper to try to give it a little more air... and it just is not producing much heat.

I have a hunch I'll be shutting this stove down and try to clean it again. It must have an obstruction caused by ash.

Stay tuned.

I have heard that some corn burners do not do wood pellets very well. Hope this is not the case here.

Here is an example.
There recently was a corn/wood pellet stove exactly like this one in the link below on Craigslist in our area with very little use because it does not burn wood pellets very well at all!!!
http://www.cornflame.net/30000.html

Also see this thread. According to Eric this stove has hopper fires when using wood pellets!!!!

We have customers running Auburns with 100% pellets with no problems. It must be an issue with the stove not being cleaned properly. That's the biggest problem with pellet and corn stoves, the owners just don't know how to take care of them or are too lazy to find out how to take care of them.

A Clean Stove Is A Happy Stove!!! When in Doubt, Use The Leaf Blower!! :)

:) I was speaking in general not specifically about Krooser nor his unit. He even states that 80% of stove problems are due to a dirty stove. I was amazed at the improvement on my unit (Quad 1200i) after Leaf Blowering the 4 inch 21 ft venting. Is there such a word as "Blowering" :) . We may be inventing new English words on thie forum!!!

Then do a search on leaf blower on here ;-P

Well I went back out to the shop and cleaned the stove again... this time I spent about 1/2 hour with a coat hanger poking around behind the fire box. Got about another cup or two of ash out.

Then I found a bad spot on the ash pan gasket. Stuck a new chunk of gasket on with some black RTV until I can fix it right.

This stove is a PITA to start with gel compared to my St Croix Pepin. And, while it's also rated at 40K BTU the same as the Pepin, it doesn't have the fan speed nor the heat output of that old Pepin. Of course I'm trying to heat 1100 sq. ft. that is stone cold with a concrete floor. But I have pretty good insulation and the gas fired tube heater keeps the joint toasty warm when I choose to use it.

I don't like the digital controls... I'm an analog guy I guess. That's why I like spray starch over Viagra....

Stay tuned...

Well I was trying to see how warm i could get my shop by leaving the stove run 24/7 but it seems SOMEONE let the stove run out of pellets yesterday... I came home to a cold shop.

Back to square one... but now, after reading the lighting instructions, the stove actually lights pretty easy.

Just a cup of pellets should get you lit up ok. Draft can be really picky on these stoves until you find the sweet spot. When cleaning bang the living crap out of the back wall with a rubber mallet (remove decorative panel first if you have one) and you will be surprised at all the soot that comes out. Also don't forget to clean your tubes really good above your difuser plate...I use a wire tooth brush and a shop vac with a bristle end. I am on year seven with my Greenfield and have to say it has saved me a butt load of money on heating my nearly two hundred year old farm house! You have the multifuel pot already so you are all set, but nobody told my stove that it couldn't burn pellets without one installed, I quit burning corn a year ago when the ethanol plants put the price waaayyy up around here.
