Harman Accentra Insert Docking Gasket - when to replace?

How often does this need to be replaced, if ever?

I have a slight smell of smoke - could be the door gasket, could be the docking gasket. Neither has been replaced since the install in 2008.

if you slide the unit out and you see smoke stains heading out beyond the gasket..."blow by", you might consider replacing it. Not super common, but not out of the ordinary either.
