ya I foudn it as you were typing . the air intake hole is actually above the combustion blower and has a definite effect on the flame. So I want to block this inlet till i get a flame that looks what i believe is normal? If the suction is determined by the distribution blower why wouldnt turning that down create the same result?

The distribution blower doesn't have any impact on the firebox it gets its air from the room, sends it through the heat exchanger and back into the room.

Takes a lot covered to tone it down. any ill effects from blocking this air flow (not entirely) like this? I can see the internal flap inside that goes up and down with airflow. you would think there would be an external adjustment for this sort of thing.

As long as you don't block too much of it things should be fine, you only needed to cut down the air flow to stop the large pieces from being ejected. If you block too much your flame will go from a very bright yellow more towards orange and red which you don't want.

You guys are a life saver. did the trick. I got it setup so medium pieces flutter but dont get tossed. embers still get tossed and still have blue flame at the bottom an 75% yellow flame with orange tips.
Didnt use tape, to hard to make subtle adjustments. Took a tin can and flattened it out and then made a sliding cap. that way i could slowly slide it up and adjust as needed. got about half covered.
This will prolly save me a half a bag a week easily. so annoying to watch huge pellets getting tossed and know i will have to pay for the next one to do the same thing lol . Next ill have to find a new burn pot to lose the stray holes. You guys have any sites that you shop for deals?

You can do a Google search for what you are looking for, however with those burn pots likely your best bet is a local Harman dealer.

If you don't mind playing with furnace/retort cement you can plug them with that. Just read the instruction on the cement as it is not something you want to get any amouint of on your skin etc.... This can be poked back out if needed.

Any idea if the other design has any alteration to the remaining holes? some sort of adjustment to balance with the stray line at the bottom? Seems there is a lot of air coming from those holes and just thinking it might have an effect on flame direction ect if i filled them.
