If the hearth top hangs over 4" past the hearth base, then do I have to put the hearth extension all the way up to the base or can I just put it at the edge of the overhang? Hope that makes sense. I have some hardwood inlay work, on the floor, under that overhang hearth, that I don't want to cover up with tile.
