Help with a RUSSO Stove

I recently bought a house where there is a Russo Wood/Coal stove in it. The house has had no one living in it for nearly a 1.5yrs and I was originally told that there was no working alternate heat source. I would like to be able to utilize this as a heat source for the house. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the stove other then general maintence. I've replaced the heat tape around the main door and ash door. However there is a blower on the bottom of this model and once plugged in it does not work. My question is does the stove need to heat up for this blower to work? The blower is located in the rear middle/lower part of stove. In no way is it attached to the vent. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just a guess that the blower is thermostatically controlled so it turns on when the stove is warmed up...

Yes, if you look at the blower you should see a cord which attaches to a small sheet metal thingy on the rear of the stove...that contains the snap disk thermostat which actuates the blower when the stove heats up.

That is a good stove - especially for coal. You can use wood also, but it works best with coal in the colder weather.

Hi Craig,
Just looked at the pic link on that Russo and it's a beautiful stove.. Ready for the snowstorm here.. My 42" wood hoop is fully loaded plus I have a wagon loaded and tarped at the bottom of my front steps.. Bring it on!!
