I have seen some pretty neat animated avitars on this board. Can someone tell me how this is done?

Do you need to take a series of shots (probably need tripod) and them somehow merge them. Any suggestions on software to do this?

Might try the DIY section, got some folks in there with lots of different skills and sick perversions.

This, I think, could be said of every one of our forums on Hearth.com.

Right you are, fossil. And while I may be lacking in one aspect, I certainly try to make up for it in the other.

Sorry, we (the few who've responded here) obviously don't know how to animate an avatar, or we most certainly would have helped you with it. There are lots of members here on these forums with them (animated avatars)...I've no idea whether or not they actually created them as opposed to finding them elsewhere and "adopting" them. Perhaps some of the folks with animated avatars will offer some insight into the question. I can leave this thread in the DIY forum for now, or I can move it over into the Suggestion Box forum where it might get just a bit more exposure. Your call. We really do aim to please...but few of us are computer wonks. %-P RIck

I had a cowgirl kicking gif that I uploaded as an avatar for a while, only it didn't "kick". Dunno how to make them do that.

This new forum platform doesn't seem to support animated gif's Click on my avatar and it animates but it used to be animated all the time.

The image shown in the left hand column has been processed in some manner such that a browser never gets the full image data. Likely a single frame of the animation is what is retrieved and passed to the browsers.

If you visit your profile page it is passing all of the image data.

This may be intentional on the part of the software writers to streamline the amount of data being transfered to render pages on pages where there are likely to be a lot of images.

    ETA: https://www.google.com/search?q=Image+animation+jpeg+software

    Should get you started.
