I've been told by a logger that Hickory trees tend to twist when cut in cold weather. Why would this be? If true, seems another level of danger to be aware of when felling trees.
 
Hickory trees tend to twist when grown out in open fields. As for cutting them, cut them the same as any other tree and you'll be fine.
 
not sure if they twist but "everyday there shufflin' ".......lol......
