Last year I went out to service a customers gas fireplace insert. I went at it as usual, taking the glass off cleaning it up. I'm getting ready to vacuum off the logs when i notice some nasty build up on the right side of the logs. I go to get it and notice that its FURRY!. It was a dead bat! I turn off the vacuum and start laughing pretty hard. I had never seen anything like it especially in a gas fireplace. The good thing was the fireplace had not been used yet so it wasn't a BBQ bat. The little guy was removed and the job was finished.
