The previous owner of my stove over fired it and warped the front. I have fixed this issue but now when i run the stove on the highest heat setting(4) the top front of the stove becomes very hot. So i guess my question is how hot should the outside of the stove get? Is it possible to over fire the stove under normal use or dose something unusual or wrong have to happen? Considering its on the highest heat setting it dose not seem odd for it to be hot but am paranoid about over firing the stove.

I would think if i ran the stove on the highest heat setting and it became to hot it would trip the high limit switch and shut down??

This is correct, pellet stoves have a number of built in safety features which, when running as designed should never allow an 'over-fire' situation. The front/top of any pellet stove is one of the hottest spots on the stove, especially if your convection fan/tubes terminate around the same area.
