And appears to get paid for running around the country hanging out in bars and casinos. ;lol

I do what I can to stimulate the economy! But Ashful is the one with a Flir!

Lol... I'd love to, BKVP, but timing didn't work on this trip. Been scrambling getting my shop prep'd for spray foam, just finished a 16 hour day out there. Looking at a very busy week ahead, right now.

Hopefully next time?

Of course...

Sorry it's been a bit. I plan to go around and tighten up small leaks but there really isnt much. To be honest I only try and maintain 700+ during the extreme below zero stretches. Above that the 30 maintains the house at 70-72 all the way down to 350 ish stove temps. It really is a beast. Its not a stone wall its regular 2x4 stick construction. I have a regular sized ceiling fan which is being upgraded to a 70" here soon to help move more air. My loft suprisingly isnt to much warmer than the main level. That loft is getting walled off and turned into a bedroom which will cut down on volume considerably because it is a huge loft. I guess what I am after is equal performing insert that can do what the nc30 can do being stuck 1/2 way into a stone/brick fireplace. Gimme that performance or better in an insert for a bit cleaner look and im sold. My plans are to take this nc30 to the shop and put another one in my basement to heat when we are down there or provide a boost on arctic cold stretches

If your happy with the 30 then you need to look at a steel stove or insert of simular size to assure simular performance.

I've never had an insert but never cared for them do to the amount of heat lost. After hanging around here I have came to the conclusion that heating with an insert is doable, but only if the proper steps are taken. ie, proper block off plate is key, back up power source for blower in case of power outage. I'm sure those with inserts can tell you more about them.

For good heating choose an insert that projects out on the hearth and stay away from flush units. PE, Osburn, Enviro, Regency, Quadrafire all make some good inserts with decent hearth projection. The Summit is a popular unit that heats well, even during a power outage.
