Is there an easy way to roughtly convert a ton of pellets to a volume quantity, like cubic feet or gallons?

Thanks.

a 40 lb bag is about 1 cubic foot

Are you trying to compare the potential energy of different sources of fuel? Not sure how a weight to volume ratio says about it. If you are comparing fuels the best method is to determine the cost per unit divided by the BTUs per unit. If you want to get fancy you can also factor in efficiencies to give you a more real world value.

I saw a 1600 gallon cone bottom tank on Craigs List. Figured the cone bottom would be good for pellet bulk storage. Came out to 4.3 tons of pellets using above info. Then it occurred to me I'd never be able to get it into the basement anyway. :(
