Can you glue it in place?
Some duct tape to wedge it in the slot if you are in a hurry.
Big rare earth magnet on shaft.
Thats about it with out seeing it.
Good luck Thomas

thanks gang
if it warms up today im going to try working on it
when i get it done i will give an update on what worked
thanks
charlie

Try a sharp center punch. Place the key in place and stake it in place by punching the top edge of the key way where it meets the key. It will slightly pinch the key way enough to hold the key in place.

Jet lube brand mp silcone grease. Words most sticky tacky grease.

Install with a thin piece of paper on one side, tap in place. Tear off excess. Grease works too but I find the paper "binds" the key in place a little better.
