So we are removing our wooden mantel/ surround and are going with tile!
The pic is now.....

This is the stove we are getting in brown - http://hampton-fire.com/Wood/Inserts/HI300/index.php

This is the tile that will be used on the floor and to frame the opening where the insert slides up (just to have a level surface): http://daltileproducts.com/series.cfm?series=246&log=4#3753 Golden sun 12x12

This is the tile for the walls: http://daltileproducts.com/series.cfm?series=247&log=4#
On the fence for bejing green or golden sun, it has lots of depth and texture....

What do you think?!

I think you will end up with a very sharp looking hearth regardless of which way you go.

I am kind of partial to the Bejing green for the veined look.

Slate has a timeless look to it!!! We had to extend our hearth out so we are using slate tiles from Lowes, they are super cheap, $2.14SF I looked at Daltile and they have some great stuff, but Lowes had a similar color of slate, easier access and alot cheaper than DAL retail.

http://daltileproducts.com/series.cfm?series=110&next=7&pg=2&log=4 Its hard to tell from the pics, but its in between sunset glory and mobgolian spring. :)

Every time I look at this thread, I do a double take because I think it's a thread I posted - your hearth/mantel looks just like mine was.

We just pulled the mantel out, laid a honed slate floor for the hearth, and will tile with limestone mosaics behind the ivory stove.

The slate is an amazing silver with the grain running through.

Good job!
