ID this thing that grew on my white oak

Not sure I've seen this white fuzzy ball before.
I haven't tried to identify it elsewhere yet.
Anyone care to venture a guess?

i believe that is some kind of wasp larvae or egg mass. I'm sure some one can give us the for true identity of the bugger.
 
Yes, we see them every year here.
 
Well thanks for the info fellas; I think you're right.
I searched for oak apple galls and oak wasp galls...found that most don't really look like this white thing, but a few did.

Duke Univ. had the best White Oak one.

Galls, which are not uncommon, can be very ornamental.

This is the Wool Sower gall, produced by a gall wasp called the Wool Sower (Callirhytis seminator).
