I didn't cut much last winter. I finally got it all split but only a little bit stacked so far.

This is part of the dead pin oak I cut up late. About 1/3 was punk and we just throw that away.

Its still too wet here to be driving across lawns, hope to get scrounging in the next few weeks.

Its like you barricade yourself in.

I call it the privacy heap lol

1st pic - old shed at parents acreage about 1hr west of me late April 2010 2-3 yr old mixed mostly dead Red,White,Black,Bur Oak with about 30% Hickory, few sticks of Mulberry,Red Elm.About 3 cords total. There's about an equal amount I have bucked in the past month but not hauled in or split on the hillsides out near western edge of property.Rained past 3 days so hopefully it'll be dry next week & I'll get a free day to start doing that. Will split & stack that for at least 2yrs between several of the trees about 30 ft east of the shed.

2nd pic - One of the stacks in my backyard here in town October 2010.Front stack is 3-4-yr old mostly dead mixed Oaks with some Hickory & Red Elm.Stack at rear next to 6 1/2' neighbors fence is 2yr + Black Walnut tops/branches,Silver Maple,Mulberry & Eastern Red Cedar/Juniper.Luckily I didnt need any of this last winter, its ready for next year just in case though.

3rd pic -2 small stacks of 2yr mostly Mulberry with some Cedar & Silver Maple. Not too much space in backyard here,I shoehorn it in wherever I can.

4th pic - Jumble of larger Cedar rounds from 2 months back that I havent finished milling yet, plus some Walnut,Hickory & Cedar slabs/scrap mixed in.Work area is kinda cramped, but I try to keep things semi-neat if possible.

Plus I have just over a cord split & stacked in a few random spots scattered in parents timber that needs picking up also.Much easier to make several smaller piles & back up to each one than carry everything by hand to 1 central spot.

I scrounged this Black Locust back in April.

I haven't cut, split and stacked all of it yet. Looks like I will be burning about 90% Black Locust next season.

Here's what I've accumulated over the winter. The rows are apx 25 feet long. Just waiting for some warmer weather so wood shelters can be stained. Once they are completed I'll start bringing this wood home to split and stack for 2012-13 season. In another location I've got a smaller stash of wood cut to length and waiting to come home.

This is what we started with last year with the one section we used being filled back up (3.05 cord) plenty more coming in with some new stacking areas being looked at.

Woodshed is full and split with 3 cords of mostly Oak on each side, one for 2011-12 and other side for 2012-13. Also have a row of Oak shorties 9-12" along my shed I'm going to burn in the shoulder seasons or have them in standby in case I come up short in the shed.

Work in progress for 2013-14. I need to get busy splitting these two rows of Black Locust, Hackberry, Silver Maple and Red Oak. Also took a picture of my fire pit wood which is a mixed mess of Pine, Basswood, Boxelder and unidentified driftwoods.
