Colorado- near the Divide
Yesterday I rewelded the deflector back on, picked up another load of wood in Breckenridge, and got home late. I ground on the weld a bit, and installed the muffler. By then, it was about 11 pm, so sleepie-sleepie time. I stopped at the Stihl dealer before work, and talked to the tech. I like. Asked him to verify that I had the carb. adjusted correctly( honestly, I hadn't touched it.) he was 2 weeks backlogged, BUT this was his first customer modification of this sort, so he was intrigued. 45 minutes later, he calls and says it runs very well. OK, see him after work, he adjusted the carb., and threw in a new NGK plug. We cut some cookies out of some 10" pine in the back, and I noticed the difference. That's with the crap, ground-down safety chain. Home now, and cut some of the green Pine I have out front. The saw does not bog down as esily as it did before, keeps the RPM's up there better. The increase is not dramatic, but definitly noticeable. Increase in noise in minimal. So I'm pleased. I'm gonna go swap the crap chain for the new RS chain he made, and see what's what. I'll check in later. My sincere thanks to everyone who lent their input on this. JB

RS chain on, and cooling down. Luke Skywalker was watching me cut, and he looked like he'd popped a handfull of Viagra! RS chain+ muffler mod.+whatever= Me being quite happy! Once again, Smokin' and Hittin', thanks for the input and motivation!

Pic's or it never happened!

Oh yeah, I got the pic's, oh yeah. Just gotta take the time to figure out how to post them!! ( and photoshop my booger welds on the deflector). Thanks Smokin', I'm dieing for the 16" bar now!

How good are you at sharpening the chains?

lol I dont even own a welder. It will be alright! Taking a less than idea saw to where your at PRICELESS but we still need PIC's?

Cool BK

I pulled my 2145 down and found it already had a unlimited coil in it. While I was working on mine my brother pulled his apart. He pulled the screen out and was able to open up the exhaust hole up with a drill bit in the drill press with out taking the deflector off. He was able to open it to the inside size of the deflector. So I had him do mine too. It certainly sounds better and runs faster. But I am going to take it to my friend and have him adjust the carb. I don't feel comfortable doing it myself.

Nicely done, CB Billy. Neat when they end up sounding like a piped, CR-125. It's not noisier, just different, huh! Don't blame you on the personal comfort of re-tuning your carb. It's nice to know you have someone around to fine tune things, isn't it. Sounds like you're in good shape! Smokin- your Pic's will be delayed. The tray on my tower doesn't work, wife broke it( and that's the honest truth). I'm takin' the tower in for a fix, and at the end of July I have a computer wizard-cousin coming out for a visit. She'll post my stuff then. In the meanwhile, I'm gonna cut stuff up with my new Husky Lightsabre! Thanks all!

Glad it worked out well...... keep your ears on to make sure it's still 4 stroking after its had time to really warm up.

I listened to that sound clip for a long time before I attempted to tune my carb. One of my kids actually asked me the one day when I sat down at the computer, "Are you going to listen to that chainsaw again Daddy?"

Kids are great. I've heard some suggest wearing ear plugs when listening to your saw. Helps pick up the 4 stroking.

Thats funny, once you got it "your ears" they should always be with you...lol

Beetle-Kill, I'm looking forward to your pictures. My brother has a 346XP that he was talking about maybe modding after I told him I had done my 290.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to getting my tower fixed, and learning how to post pictures. :cheese: Honestly, I doubt the pictures will be all that impressive. I used a Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel to remove the deflector. Then a ginding stone to oblong it. Polished the grind with a Kratex wheel and Presto! Double checked here, the heated up the bubble-gum (.035 wire and 24g. steel do not a happy weld make). With the cover on, you can't even see the thing.

.035 wire on 24GA! :bug: It wasn't flux core was it?

Flux-core, nope. Solid wire. And I wasn't going to re-spool a machine to .023 just for that little bit. Hence, Booger welds! I should have just waited, and had one of the guys in the shop TIG it, but I wanted to get it done.

I gotcha. I still have to get down to the hardware store and get a bottle of C25 so that I can start running solid core and start doing some body work. I've booger welded lots of stuff with the good old .030 flux core though.

Thanks B-K

I've been busy working on two wagons here daylight to dark. To take to the farm I was supposed to leave today but hopefully tomorrow I can leave. Waiting for the primer to cure so I can shoot the color on it and put it back togher.
