House is 20 years old. Wood burning fireplace with this insert or built-in? Two fans on the side behind the louvers, fan is controlled by dial on the wall. We wish to replace this with a gas insert but we aren't sure what we have. There's a damper on the inside. Our neighbor calls it a Heatilator. Any idea where to look for model, make, serial # info? Not sure if we have a masonary chimney or not. What a can of worms we have opened. Thanks in advance for your help!

It looks like an old heatilator mark 123.

Look for a plate riveted inside the firebox.
It may be over the opening or to either side
& if it's still legible, it'll have the make model
& serial number of the unit...

looks like a heatilator fp... steel box surrounded by masonry. If you wanna put anything in there, best to poke a hole thru somewhere and see what kinda structure there is behind the fireback and walls.. should be an airspace to those vents. depending on how they built it, it may be wise to not cover over the vents.

Thanks for the replies -

I emailed the photo to the Heatilator folks today, they say it isn't their product.

The damper is etched Majestic 75-51.111c or maybe o???

Anyone know about Majestics?
