Hello,

I posted yesterday that I am seriously considering a pellet stove for our garage. Our bedroom is above garage and it gets cold. We run a kero heater down there now and it helps but only leave it on when we are home.

I want to put a stove in the gargage. The floor is concrete with block walls. I have 7.5' to the ceiling which is drywall. Is this enough clearance above the stove?

Thanks.

Thats plenty of room, sounds like a perfect spot.

Check your local code, it is typically not acceptable to install in a garage. That said, it is your garage! Big deal is combustables such as gas and an open flame.

Very true, code MAY not allow it.

That being said, we have had a wood stove in the garage for YEARS. And if you are already running a kero heater down there, you obviously aren't too worried about it.

Code is always a consideration if you want your insurance to cover the place in the event of a fire.

Now, here is a little tid bit.

A friend wanted to install a pellet stove in his garage and was told NO due to the possibility of a fire due to cars with fuel in the tanks etc.

So, not wanting to take no for an answer the fellow protested under the argument that the GAS hot water heater is in the garage and it has a flame that is actually more open than the pellet stove.

The stove went into the garage per normal guidlines as it would have in the house.

Having gasoline cans and other flamables stored in the garage would not be a good idea with any appliance that burns anything or has an open/semiopen flame.

Is your hot water heater gas ??? in the garage ???

Gotta ask why are you gonna put this baby in the garage? Why not just put it in the space you want to heat?
