Someone told me that the cresote that lies in my boiler (I have a lot of it in there) can cause health problems if it touches my skin, or if I breathe it. I realize I should not bathe in it, but has anyone researched this topic or have any data to say "we'll be okay"?

There are no toxic chemicals. There are only toxic doses.

In other words, all things in moderation. I was tarring a roof on a friend's house, years ago, and we had no running water at the house. So I used brake cleaner to wash my hands. They were pretty dry for the next couple days, but no lasting ill effects. If you do that on a regular basis, you'll end up with some skin problems.
