    Hello folks,

I spent so much time on here this winter it seems strange to not. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions this winter. I have my chase opened up, my hearth installed up to the cement board and a new outlet installed for the blower on the stove. My wife picked out and we purchased tile for the hearth. I have my chimney quote from Dunamite buys (http://www.dynamitebuys.com/) I did decide to keep the chimney on the inside of the chase. I was very happy when I opened up the chase - I forgot that we insulated, drywalled and firetaped the chase so that made it a lot easier to move forward. Charlie at Blaze King suggested this http://www.condar.com/asv_instructions_english.html which I ordered yesterday. I will install it where the pipe from my gas fireplace was originally. I will post pics when it looks like something and I start on the chimney install.

Hey Bill, we've been wondering how your project is going. Did you get much snow yesterday?

Thanks BeGreen, pics will follow. Dennis, we had a light morning covering that was gone within a few hours. Made me laugh when I got up though; the U.P. 80 degrees in March, now snow in March. Gotta love it.

I agree Bill. We had the same thing happen. Our peach trees have already blossomed and some of the apple trees are beginning to open the blossoms. In the woods we have buttercups, may flowers and may apples already. Strange March for sure.

    Bill,
My brother lives NW of Manistique (Thunder Lake) and he has had the same up and down weather. Snow / no snow / cold / too warm. And it is not just us. I'm in the SE part of the lower, but have been working in Lexington Kentucky where the same swings are happening.

Keep us posted on you install. Pictures too please.

Tim, I had a cottage in Steuben for quite a few years so I know the area your brother is in. I love it there. I grew up in Manistique. In my mis-spent youth, we roamed those federal forest roads around Thunder Lake and drank a lot of beer (ok, we were camping). The Thunder Lake store used to be a tavern, burgers, beers and fun. That was during the era the drinking age was lowered to 18 so we took advantage of it. My buddy eventually built his permanent home on Gooseneck Lake where his dad had a trailer parked (did I mention we were camping?).

    Thanks for the shout out.

Bill, that is not far from our old stomping grounds. If you know where the old shingle mill was along the old railroad tracks (near Scotts Camp), that is where we used to set up deer camp for many, many moons. It is not that far north of Steuben.

Jeez, Dennis, I haven't a clue where any of that was. You must be a tad older then me. I'll hit a young 55 next month. I DO know where the Jack Pine is though. Did you ever meet old Kalija?

Yup. You have to go a bit north of the Jack Pine. From the south, after you pass the middle branch of Stutts Creek, it is either the next or the second trail north of that. I say either the first or second because at times that first one has been closed. It seems to me it is about 1/2 mile north of the bridge. I think is is FF 2253. Hard to believe but it has been a few years since we were there. You would almost have to be shown where the old mill was as there is not much there now. But when you get to the Haywire (used to be a RR) it would be about 1/2 mile south of Scotts (that's where the road meets the old RR). Yes, I'm a little bit older than you.

The Haywire track was about 10 ft. beyond our backyard fence when I was a kid. Hearing (and feeling) that steam engine come chugging would chase me up to the porch to hide and peer around the corner at it. We would take rides down to the dock in the evening to watch the ore cars be swallowed up by a boat with two levels to make the journey south on lake Michigan.

Does anyone know why I am no longer getting emails when there is a reply to a thread I have posted on? I have that preference checked in my control panel, but it isn't working.

Bill, you have to go back to your control to reset the email notification. At least that is what I had to do. Try Preferences as I think that is where it is.

Ah yes, the old engines. Love them.

Bill, I just checked and it is in Preferences. Also you can reset your time to eastern time.

Be at ease Tim. I think this thread is about done anyway. Sometimes it is good to reminisce a bit though.

    Thanks Dennis,
Looking foreward to getting home later this month. Kentucky has some pretty country, but I'm ready to get back to Michigan and get back to my wife and home.
    Take care,
    Tim
