In my search a couple weeks ago I found a great source for Kaowool blanket for only 3$ per square foot. They also have an inswool pumpable caulk and a fiberboard product. Plus they have this paint-on coating that is about $40. I would be curious how this stuff applies and I am not sure that it works just like paint, if it does it seems like it would be great for mantel trim and whatnot. And I am definitely getting a few feet of the blanket.

(Someone on here once posted a similar product that their friend painted an alcove with, and said it never even got hot to the touch.) The stuff has an insane R value. Here's yet another version. http://planetgreen.amazonwebstore.c...-Barrier-Insulating-Paint.-5/M/B001E5Z6E0.htm

Hard for me to see that a layer of paint can be effective insulation, it can only be a few mils thick.
