It looks like it wants to be shagbark, but it's just not quite there. It's not a trunk. It looks like a large limb. It's very heavy and has that purplish hue you see in a lot of hickory trunks. Thoughts?

The small amount of hickory I have looks like that split piece, stringy
 
It looks very hickory. I save everything on those trees and the upper limbs are smooth barked. The fissures are just tiny indents. Like vertical painted stripes.
 
Smooth and shagbark grow together here. Sometimes next to each other . I CSS 6 cord of it last year(both)
