I just purchase a Lennox Legacy c260 insert. I am having my brother in laws install it. They are having problems with the insulating blanket install. The directions seem to be vague. Anyone out there have any experience installing a C260? My brother in law also says that I do not need any attachment that would allow the exhaust to flow into the chimney. He said that the draft would pull the smoke out. Maybe I should get a professional to install the insert?

Welcome. Feel free to ask questions here. Your instincts are correct. Your b-i-l is suggesting a slammer install. That is not a good idea at all. To get the best and safest performance out of this beast it should be connected to a liner or at least a stub of a liner that extends past the damper + a damper sealing block off plate.

For sure you should have a professional chimney sweep clean and inspect the chimney first. The sweep will tell you whether the flue is safe or not. Find out if the chimney is tile lined, in good shape and get the throat dimensions of the flue pipe. If it is large a liner will likely be a necessity.
