Hi everyone,
This may be a foolish question but here it goes. Does the block off have to be placed square at the top of the firebox? Since the damper is already removed, why can't the plate go in-place of the damper. It's framed, it's a smaller space, it seems to make more sense. Any thoughts?
thanks.

If you can get it in the old damper area, then go for it. Wherever the easiest place you can get a good, tight fit, is a good place.

I plan on using my the damper as my block off plate. Cut it to fit around the pipe then cement it in. I have pretty easy access to mine.
