Nothing new. For many years I've started our charcoal fires with a cheap hot air gun. Works like a charm.

This should do the job at 1/4 the cost of a looftlighter:

Thanks begreen, I keep a hair dryer handy for negative drafts, but I see a heat gun in my future for double duty...

Clicky trigger propane torch works well to, around my house that's what we refer to as a lighter.

I use birch bark, free and excellent for starting a fire!

I never use the heat gun for wood stove fire starting, just for the charcoals. It's just as fast as shown in the video. Got mine in 1990 and it is still going strong.

Pellet smoker here. Was going to buy bge last summer but after seeing and using my friend's dad's pellet smoker I was sold.
