Hi all,

I'm looking for a gas insert with the following requirements:

- High BTU output
- Log set
- Preferably cast iron
- Real looking
- Work during a power cut
- Fill an brick fireplace 26 inches tall and 34 inches across

Not concerned about price, quality is more important.

I would welcome lots of feedback and comments.

Thanks,

Rob

Heat & Glo & Regency make gas insert that are REALLY good heaters & work in a power outage.
Your HIGH BTU requirement is going to be limited by the width of you existing fireplace.
The larger models require at least a 35 - 36" wide opening...
I'd say you'll be able to get a 35K BTU (INPUT) unit in there, but you didn't say how big an area you want to heat,
how well insulated your home is or how the living area is broken up, so I don't really know if that size will do what you need...

The house is 3500 sq ft but I'm not looking to heat all of it.
We have a good baseboard gas based system that keeps us warm. This is really to blast us in the living room when it's really cold outsite.
The living room is about 350 sq ft and open plan to the rest of the downstairs.
Insulation is great, house is only 4 years old.

Thanks for the tips on Heat & Glo and Regency, I'll take a look at them.

Rob
