Hi Everyone!

I am interested in getting the Lopi Freedom Bay wood stove insert. I just called my local dealer and was quoted $2,728 for the stove plus $2,000 to install.

I don't mind the price on the stove, but the install price seems high. Another dealer in the area (who unfortunately doesn't deal with Lopi stoves) said that an install for one of their inserts would run $775 (install) + $539 (insulated liner) for inserts that they sell.

Does $2,000 for an install with liner sound high to you? Thanks!

$2000 is definitely high. I just paid $850 for a install with the liner.

To me, very high! The other sounds about right. Buy the the stove from the other and have other install it. Unless you do it yourself?

Thanks for the responses. Yeah, I was hoping to get the other one to install, but they only install stoves that they carry :(

Unfortunately, the place that quoted $2,000 is the only Lopi dealer in Maryland. Should I try calling an HVAC contractor?

$2000 sounds typical of some store quotes, but shop around and you will probably get a better deal. You'll find a nearly identical post by me last January when I suffered sticker shock from the first shop. In the end I paid $1500 for install and was happy I didn't try it myself.

Nathan:

The dealer quote might be on the high side. The cost depends on how complicated the install is. I recommend that you ask the dealer for a breakdown of his installation quote in writing. Sometimes getting an insulated liner down an existing chimney flue is a tough nut to crack. Sometimes the job is fairly easy. Then again, sometimes dealers will highball a quote if they don't want the job.

I suggest that you contact a few of the NFI Certified Woodburning specialist in the Baltimore area and obtain additional quotes. See the web page:

Good luck with your woodstove install.

I just obtained a quote today for a Freedom insert. I was quoted $2,700 for the regular version, $2,900 for the Bay. Blowers included. Installation of $500, and another $500 for 25 feet of liner and cap (316 stainless). I am located in Cleveland, OH. Hope this is helpful.

Hi Nathan,

If you can remember, all these years later, who did you wind up hiring to install your stove?
I live in MD too. Not too far from Balt. I can only find one Lopi dealer in our area. I think it's Watsons. These prices just to install are crazy high to me. Costs as much or more than the stove.
Any other ideas or advice you can offer would be appreciated too.

Thanks,
Zinnia

Like others have said the install price may be adjusted depending on the type of install. What is the size of the flue and a picture of the outside/length of run as well as the inside firebox and face area and i could get u a pretty close price for the area.

For instance i run into alot of 9 by 13 flue tiles north of st marys county. A 6inch insulated liner will not fit down a flue of this size so the tiles need to be knocked out which will add substantial cost. This can be exasperated if there are offsets. Dont forget permit costs. Alot of counties in maryland require permits.

This thread is 6 yrs old. A reply is possible but unlikely. It would be better to start a new thread specific to your installation.
